COURSE DETAILS:

Embark on a captivating journey with the PADI Advanced Mermaid™ course, where you'll elevate your PADI Mermaid™ certification and immerse yourself in the wonders of open water. Discover the enchanting differences between open and confined water settings, including their size, depth, and variable conditions.

Dive deep into the mesmerizing world of open water mermaiding techniques and engage with the vibrant aquatic life around you. Learn what to anticipate, and uncover essential safety tips to ensure your adventure is as safe as it is thrilling. Join us and let the magic of mermaiding unfold!

The PADI Advanced Mermaid course consists of three main phases:

1. **Knowledge Development**: This will be conducted through independent study using the PADI Advanced Mermaid eLearning program. Alternatively, your instructor may hold class sessions if eLearning is unavailable in your language.

2. **Confined Water Sessions**: You will participate in at least two confined water sessions to learn how to prepare for mermaiding, rescue, and problem management skills. You will also practice mermaid skills such as dolphin (butterfly) kicks, C-shape and U-shape turns, and unique mermaid diving techniques, including backward somersault turns, underwater handshaking mermaid bubbles, and back glides. These should have already been completed in the PADI Mermaid Course but may be refreshed if it was done a long time ago.

3. **Open Water Sessions**: These sessions will take place in a natural body of water or a purpose-built site significantly larger than a pool, providing an ideal environment for mermaid diving. Here, you will learn and practice the setup, conduct, and execution of open water mermaid dives, including environmentally friendly diving techniques.

Equipment

In the PADI Advanced Mermaid course, you will use a monofin (i.e., mermaid tail), mask, snorkel, and fins. You may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. Using gear designed specifically for mermaiding is best for this level; however, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own. If you are a freediver, some of your gear (e.g., mask, fins, and snorkel) is also suitable for mermaiding.

What to Bring

  • Low-volume mask and J-style freediving snorkel

  • Nose clip or sinus-saver nose plugs (optional)

  • Freediving fins OR bifins (standard SCUBA fins)

  • A change of clothes

  • A secure swimsuit

  • Towels

  • Water and snacks

  • Notebook

A rental mermaid tail with fin will be provided during the class.

If you prefer, you can bring your own mermaid tail, but it must be from one of the following brands:

Mermaid Linden, Suntails, Mertailor Whimsy, Fin Fun, or Cape Cali.

Mermaid Linden is highly recommended for beginners.

Important Medical Information for Freediving and Mermaid Students

Freediving requires a certain level of health and physical fitness. If you have chronic medical conditions, are taking specific medications, or have recently undergone surgery, you may need written clearance from a physician before participating in any diving activities.

Please download and review the Diver Medical form before enrolling in a freediving or mermaid course to determine whether you'll need medical approval.

Please note: Instructors, Divemasters, and dive shop staff are not qualified to provide medical advice—only licensed medical professionals can assess your fitness for diving and provide medical clearance if necessary.
