COURSE DETAILS:
The PADI Mermaid™ course is an enchanting journey that blends knowledge development with at least two exhilarating water skill sessions, designed to elevate your mermaiding experience well beyond the foundational skills learned in the Basic Mermaid™ course. This transformative course introduces a captivating array of techniques that turn mermaiding into a breathtaking underwater art form, setting it apart from all other diving experiences. Remember, the PADI Mermaid course includes the Basic Mermaid course, so there’s no need to complete it separately—dive straight into the magic!
The PADI Mermaid course is divided into two phases:
Knowledge Development: This can be completed through independent study using the PADI Mermaid eLearning program. Alternatively, your instructor may conduct class sessions if the eLearning is unavailable in your language.Â
Confined Water Sessions: You will participate in two confined water sessions to learn essential mermaiding techniques and prepare for more advanced practices. These sessions cover rescue and problem management skills and mermaid diving techniques. You'll learn skills such as dolphin (butterfly) kicks, C-shape and U-shape side turns, and unique moves specific to mermaid diving, including the backward somersault turn, underwater handshaking mermaid bubbles, and back glides.
Equipment
In the PADI Mermaid course, you will use a monofin (i.e. mermaid tail), mask, snorkel and fins. You may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. Using gear designed specifically for mermaiding is best; however, in this beginner course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own. If you are a freediver, some of your gear (e.g. mask, fins, and snorkel) is also mermaiding gear.

Freediving necessitates a certain level of health and fitness. If you have chronic health conditions, are taking specific medications, or have undergone recent surgery, you may need written approval from a physician before diving.Â
Please download and review the Diver Medical form to ensure that you won’t require a physician's approval before enrolling in a freediving or mermaid course. Instructors, Divemasters, and dive shop staff are not qualified to provide medical advice;- only licensed medical professionals can grant medical clearance for diving.
